Background
What are some of the factors that led to your decision to enter the seminary and discern the question of a vocation to the priesthood?
Some of the factors that led me to my decision to enter the seminary are my love for Christ and the Church, the joy and passion I began to feel through service, and the deep peace I experience every time I am in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
Who are some of the people who influenced your decision to enter the seminary? What is it about them that assisted you?
Some of the people who influenced my decision to enter the seminary are my grandmother, my mother, and a couple of priests who accompanied me during my discernment. My grandmother taught me how to pray when I was a child; through her, I first experienced the tenderness and love of God. During my adolescence, my mother encouraged me to pursue my spiritual life, which helped keep me close to the sacraments. Finally, a couple of priests from the Diocese of Orange walked with me during my discernment, offering support and encouragement as I continued to say "yes" to God. Their example inspired me to give my life to Christ and take the next step by entering the seminary.
Describe the moment that you knew you wanted to take the next steps to become a priest?
There have been a few significant moments in my life when I strongly felt that God was calling me to give my life to Him through the priesthood. One of those moments took place at a youth congress in Los Angeles. During a time of prayer, a bishop offered words of encouragement and began praying specifically for those who might be experiencing a special calling. In that moment, a religious priest approached me and shared words that deeply resonated with what I had been feeling for months, a desire to become a priest. His words felt like a confirmation of the calling I had sensed in my heart.
