Bishop Emeritus Tod Brown Receives Lifetime Achievement Award for Interreligious Work
The Bishop Emeritus is honored for longtime work for “interreligious understanding and cooperation.”
The Catholic Association of Diocesan Ecumenical and Interreligious Officers (CADEIO) has presented Bishop Emeritus Tod Brown with its highest honor, the James E. Fitzgerald Award.
The award, which acknowledges lifetime achievement in the promotion of Christian unity and interreligious understanding, was presented to Bishop Brown at CADEIO’s annual conference in Charlotte, N.C. on April 22.
A Legacy of Building Bridges
“This diocese has really been in the forefront on these issues,” said Father Al Baca, the ecumenical and interreligious affairs officer for the Diocese of Orange. “And even in his retirement Bishop Brown has maintained his work in this area. We priests in the parishes pay attention when the bishops are doing something like this.”
A Lifetime of Service to Christian Unity
Bishop Brown’s long-standing commitment to ecumenism and interreligious dialogue is reflected in his numerous leadership roles, both past and present.

- Consultor to the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue.
- Member of the Orthodox-Roman Catholic Bishop’s Dialogue.
- Member of Christian Churches Together in the U.S.A.
Former Roles:
- Member of the Pontifical Council on Interreligious Dialogue.
- Chairman of the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue.
