Diocese Receives Record Capital Gift

$20 Million Anonymous Gift, Largest in Diocese of Orange History, Pledged to Christ Cathedral Renovation

GARDEN GROVE, CA – The Diocese of Orange has received a pledge for a $20 million contribution from an anonymous donor, the largest capital gift in the diocese’s history. The funds are earmarked specifically for the renovation and transformation of Christ Cathedral and its grounds.

The gift will be contributed over a multiple-year period to the Orange Catholic Foundation, the nonprofit charitable organization that raises funds to benefit the mission of the Diocese of Orange.

A Keystone Gift for the ‘For Christ Forever’ Campaign

This unprecedented contribution adds substantially to the sacrificial gifts already made by more than 24,000 parishioners and donors. Over the past two years, they have pledged more than $85 million to the For Christ Forever capital campaign.

“This faith-filled donor has recognized the importance of the historic transformation underway on the Christ Cathedral campus and has stepped forward to help realize our vision of creating a true center of gravity within Orange County,” said Tim Busch, the co-chair of the capital campaign committee. “This gift represents another important step on our journey of faith at Christ Cathedral.”

A Gift to Inspire

Inspired by the diocese’s stewardship of the cathedral property and its commitment to ecumenical outreach, the donor shared the following statement:

“I am blessed to offer my faithful and financial support to the diocese’s efforts to restore and renovate the campus and make its vision for Christ Cathedral a reality. I hope this gift will inspire other donors in our community to give as well.”
