The Diocese of Orange, Orange Catholic Foundation and the music ministry of Christ Cathedral invite the parish community and music lovers everywhere to celebrate the newly restored Hazel Wright Organ, an iconic instrument made famous around the world for its association with the Rev. Robert Schuller’s “Hour of Power” broadcast. “Hazel,” as the organ is affectionately known, will receive a special blessing in a ceremony led by Bishop Kevin Vann on June 10, starting at 6:30 p.m. The free event, which will also be livestreamed on the Christ Cathedral website, is expected to last one hour and include an entrance procession, a greeting and introductory rites from Bishop Vann, biblical readings, blessing of the organ with incense, prayers and a choral piece. No admission tickets are required. Under the leadership of Bishop Vann, the Diocese of Orange has been working to restore Hazel to her former glory for nearly a decade. That comprehensive, painstaking effort included disassembling the complex instrument, shipping it back to Italy for restoration, and placing it in storage in Orange County until it was ready to return to its home. Once back in Christ Cathedral, specialists have been working to voice and tune it for regular use. Fans and supporters of Hazel are also invited to contribute in the ongoing effort to keep the organ playing.
