The Diocese of Orange along with five other California Dioceses, (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino, Fresno, Sacramento) participated in an independent, third-party, program to compensate victims of child abuse by priests. The program offered an alternative to abuse survivors who did not want to purse their claims in court. Recently, a news release and report were issued by the third-party oversight board upon the close of the program which was launched in September of 2019.
Under the program, the Diocese of Orange paid out $1.7 million to 12 victims.
