The experience of receiving mercy fills our hearts with joy. Overflowing, we can’t help but share that loving mercy with those around us! As Pope Francis reminds us, “We are called to show mercy because mercy has first been shown to us” (Misericordiae Vultus, 9). He asks us to dedicate this year “to living out in our daily lives the mercy which the Father constantly extends to all of us.” (MV, 25).
So many people in our lives are in need of mercy: family and friends, the poor, the sick, and the outcast. How can you open your heart in a special way this year to share mercy with those in need around you?
- Live out the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy in your daily life. Feed the hungry. Give drink to the thirsty. Clothe the naked. Shelter the homeless. Visit the sick. Visit the imprisoned. Bury the dead. Counsel the doubtful. Instruct the ignorant. Admonish sinners. Comfort the afflicted. Forgive offenses. Bear wrongs patiently. Pray for the living and the dead.
- Use your gifts in service to your parish community. Get involved in your local parish.
- Use your gifts in service to others through the ministries of Catholic Charities.
