Sexual Assault/Exploitation, Rape and Incest

The patron saint of those who have been sexually assaulted is St. Maria Goretti.

“To create a safe environment for children is of paramount importance for the Church, and everyone in the Church is responsible for ensuring that this exists. No one can say, ‘It’s not my job.’”
-Teresa M. Kettelkamp, Executive Director Secretariat of Child and Youth Protection

“Rape is the forcible violation of the sexual intimacy of another person. It does injury to justice and charity. Rape deeply wounds the respect, freedom, and physical and moral integrity to which every person has a right. It causes grave damage that can mark the victim for life. It is always an intrinsically evil act. Graver still is the rape of children committed by parents (incest) or those responsible for the education of the children entrusted to them.” –Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2365

“Our awareness must expand and extend to the very depths of this evil and its farthest reaches … from awareness to prayer … from prayer to solidarity … and from solidarity to concerted action, until slavery and [human] trafficking are no more.” -Cardinal Peter Turkson
