As we begin these days of anticipation and prayer for the Cardinals in conclave, it would be well to remember some words of Pope Benedict XVI regarding St. Joseph, patron of the Universal Church. Pope Benedict said these words at the Angelus on December 18, 2005:
“It is no exaggeration to think that Jesus learned—at the human level—that steadfast interiority which is a presupposition of authentic justice, the ‘superior justice’ which he was one day to teach his disciples (cf. Mat. 5:20). Let us allow ourselves to be ‘filled’ with St. Joseph’s silence! In a world that is often too noisy, that encourages neither recollection nor listening to God’s voice, we are such deep need of it.” [From Pope Benedict XVI: The Saints]
Important words for us, as believers, in these days of history! San Giuseppe, prega per noi!
