An important message from Bishop Freyer about the Institute for Pastoral Ministry
Society and the Church have changed dramatically in the past years. In our present time, we need a different entity that will form our catechists and teachers to create missionary disciples. It is our plan to move the Institute for Pastoral Ministry in a new direction in the coming months as we respond to and train toward the goals of our faith formation and evangelization priorities.
Bishop Vann is appointing Rev. Al Baca to the new position of director of the Office of Evangelization and Faith Formation, effective July 1. Fr. Baca will be overseeing the creation of a new catechetical entity that will guide our mission of evangelization in our age: specifically keeping in mind Pope Francis’s exhortation to become “Missionary Disciples.”
The October Diocesan Ministry Celebration will continue to be held and all courses presently being taught will continue. The future ordination dates for Deacon candidates will not be impacted, however course offerings may change. Additionally, catechists certification will be extended for an additional year to bridge the gap while the new entity is being designed and established. No new catechetical formation classes will be provided in the interim.
