WHAT IS A DIOCESE?

A diocese is a collection of parishes within a specific geographic area that is under the jurisdiction of a bishop. The Diocese of Orange encompasses all the parishes within the boundaries of Orange County and is home to the growing Catholic community members who journey together in faith.

WHAT IS A BISHOP?

A bishop is a priest who provides pastoral governance for a diocese. Bishops are teachers of the doctrine, priests of sacred worship, and leaders of the community they serve. Bishop Kevin Vann leads our Catholic community in the Diocese of Orange on its journey of faith.

The Church of Orange is a diocese. An Archdiocese is the Catholic community in a larger or more wide-reaching diocese, like Los Angeles or Omaha.
