OC Catholic Book Club: ‘Father Benedict’
April 27, 2017 @ 6:30 pm
Q1 Book Club Event
The Diocese of Orange has launched its first-ever book club, with book selections made by Bishop Kevin Vann himself, with guidance from his personal theologian Pia de Solenni of the Augustine Institute. The Orange County Catholic Book Club will meet quarterly in the Freed Theater on the campus of Christ Cathedral, with the first event set for April 27 at 6:30 p.m.
“We are excited to launch a book club for the faithful of the Diocese of Orange,” said Ryan Lilyengren, director of communications for the Diocese. “We hope that by identifying and making available spiritually rich books and subsequently exposing our readers to in-depth conversations with the authors of those books, we can create a wonderful opportunity for people to deepen their faith and find support for their personal journeys of faith.”
The new book club will bring authors to the cathedral campus to discuss their works, to participate in panel discussions and to answer questions from the audience.
The first title in the book club’s author-focused series is “Father Benedict: The spiritual and intellectual legacy of Pope Benedict XVI,” by author James Day.
Pope Benedict XVI is widely considered to be one of the greatest theologian and Catholic thinker of our time. In these pages, author James Day unpacks the voluminous teachings of Pope Benedict XVI and presents his remedies for the many ills afflicting the Church and our culture, including individualism, materialism, secularism, and godlessness.
The April 27 event will also feature a panel discussion regarding Pope Benedict XVI and his vast contributions to our journey of faith as Catholics. Panelists include: Rev. Robert Spitzer, S.J., PHD, president of Magis Institute; Pia de Solenni, Theologian to Bishop Vann and Orange County Dean of the Augustin Institute; James Day, author and EWTN Orange County, Patrick Coffin, Founder and CEO of Patrick Coffin Media and Katie Dawson, Director of Parish Faith Formation for the Diocese of Orange.
If you are a member of the OC Catholic Book Club – this event is included in your membership. The annual Orange County Catholic Book Club membership is $80 and includes the quarterly books, shipping and handling, and entrance to each quarter’s forum at Christ Cathedral.
