Ash Wednesday prayer service 10:30 a.m., March 2 at Christ Cathedral

The Most Rev. Kevin W. Vann will preside at an Ash Wednesday prayer service with a special intention for peace in Ukraine. Orthodox and Eastern Catholic clergy and leaders have received a special invitation to join in prayer demonstrating solidarity in the Body of Christ. Pastoral Center, Diocese staff and parishes are invited to attend, along with others in the broader community, to lift up the people of Ukraine and surrounding nations during this time of conflict. Bishop Vann echoes Pope Francis’ ongoing call for an end to war and the restoration and nurturing of peace: “May the Queen of Peace protect the world from the folly of war.” Parishes have been invited to include their own intentions for peace in their Ash Wednesday services and at other times as well. Prayers Intentions for the Prayers of the Faithful
  • “For an end to war in Ukraine, and for an end to all war, and that all hurts, fears, and divisions will be overcome, let us pray to the Lord.”
  • “That all the parties involved refrain from any action that would cause even more suffering to the people, destabilizing coexistence between nations and bringing international law into disrepute, we pray to the Lord.”
  • “That Mary, Queen of Peace, would preserve the world from the madness of war, we pray to the Lord.”
  • “That prayers and supplications for peace that today rise up to heaven touch the mind and hearts of world leaders, so that dialogue may prevail and the common good be placed ahead of partisan interests, let us pray to the Lord.”
  • “For the Holy Spirit to inspire creative peacemaking that overcomes evil with good and witnesses and works for that justice which makes peace, let us pray to the Lord.”
  • “For solidarity in our global human family, that we may work together to protect those who are most vulnerable and most in need, let us pray to the Lord.”
