To begin the process of preparation for Sacrament of Marriage in the Catholic Church, please contact your local parish 6 months to 1 year prior to your planned date.  Part of your preparation will be to meet with your parish priest, and attend one of several options for Marriage Preparation programs offered throughout the Diocese.

All programs focus on issues pertinent to a couple preparing for the Sacrament of Matrimony. They emphasize self-awareness as well as techniques to improve communication. Natural Family planning is strongly recommended as part of a good Marriage Preparation.

You are welcome to attend a series in any Deanery that fits your schedule.

Unitas- San Francisco Solano Parish

• Engaged Encounter - A forty-hour weekend experience presented by a team of married couples and a priest. The weekend is Catholic in orientation with personal reflection and dialogue as the main thrusts. Meals are taken in common and the weekend ends with Sunday Mass. • A Marriage in the Lord - A ten-hour program presented in a large group setting or as a small in-home experience, usually one night a week for two and one half hours over a period of four weeks. Please contact your local Parish or Deanery for Marriage Preparation registration.
• God's Plan for Love and Marriage- This is an eight hour program open to all engaged couples.  Couples meet  once a week for 2 hours for a period of four weeks.  God's Plan for Love and Marriage 2012
• Prep- Marriage a Lifetime of Love: Six Evening series for engaged couples preparing for Marriage or married couples who want to enhance and maintain a lifelong, loving partnership.

• Treasure Your Marriage- is a five-part DVD series developed by Sister Helen Szekely, CSJ, Ph.D. that shows how to meet marital challenges of today and forge a marriage you can truly treasure.   This marriage preparation program is held at St. Bonaventure Church in Huntington Beachtwice per year. This program involves four, 2 1/2 hour sessions that both husband and wife or both fiances must attend together.   For married couples this provides what we like to refer to as a marriage “tune-up”. To gently remind us of how we often we put expectations on our spouses and how we each sin differently. We enjoy some playful exercises and view and discuss 5 DVD’s. We divide up into 2 groups, those that are married and those that desire the “tune-up” experience. Many of the couples are married but are working on convalidations, where they were married outside the church and are now looking to have the marriage convalidated or blessed in the church. This program is offered in the fall and the spring.
• Unitas-"Unitas - Preparing For Sacramental Marriage " is based on a nationally recognized marriage formation process developed by Joann Heaney-Hunter, Ph.D., and Louis Primavera, Ph.D. Engaged couples who participate in "Unitas" meet once a week for eight weeks, receiving a total of 16 hours of marriage preparation.
• El Amor Nuestro de Cada Dia- A ten-hour Spanish Marriage Preparation program for engaged couples. El sacramento del matrimonio es un compromiso serio para toda la vida. La Iglesia requiere que cada pareja asista a clases pre-matrimoniales como parte del proceso de preparación para el matrimonio. Los programas enfatizan la habilidad de conocerse a uno mismo y construir una buena comunicación entre la pareja. Un programa de diez horas que usualmente se da en dos sesiones de seis horas cada una. Para registrarse le pedimos que se comunique con su Parroquia.
• Convalidation/Convalidación- A ten-hour Spanish Marriage Preparation program for couples who have been married in a civil ceremony and wish to marry in the Catholic Church.  Un programa que usualmente se da a las parejas que ya están casadas por el civil y desean convalidar su matrimonio ante la Iglesia ó a las parejas que ya viven juntas y desean casarse. Este programa es de diez horas que se da en dos sesiones de seis horas cada una. Para registrarse le pedimos que se comunique con su Parroquia.
