Orange Catholic Foundation

The Orange Catholic Foundation was established by Bishop Tod D. Brown in November, 2000, under the Non-profit Religious Corporation Law, for the purpose of securing the financial future of the Diocese of Orange. The Orange Catholic Foundation is a separate and independently governed 501 (C)(3) Corporation, established to provide a permanent source of funding for the religious and educational mission of the Diocese of Orange.

Mission Statement:

The Orange Catholic Foundation is a nonprofit corporation intended to be a permanent source of funds supporting the religious and educational activities and ministries of the Diocese of Orange.

The Foundation connects donors and beneficiaries, offering donors a way to support the works of Christ carried out in parishes, schools and diocesan programs and to support the educational and retirement needs of Priests.

The Foundation will create endowment funds in perpetuity, nurture planned giving, stewardship and resource development and acquire, manage and distribute financial gifts and bequests according to Gospel values, the direction of the diocesan Bishop and the specific wishes of the donors for the needs of the Diocese.

Prudent Investment Practices

Endowed funds of the Catholic Foundation are monitored and managed with counsel from professional investment advisors to the diocesan Finance Council. The Foundation's assets are invested in socially and morally responsible funds that are not in conflict with the tenants of Roman Catholic doctrine.

Why Endowments?

Endowed funds provide a source of continuous support to benefit the Diocese now and in perpetuity. Since the principal remains intact and interest earned can be allocated annually to financially support Catholic entities, prudently invested endowed funds are a source of never ending philanthropy.

Through endowed funds, donors are able to provide long-term financial commitment to purposes within the Church in a thoughtful, faith-filled manner that is consistent with responsible Christian stewardship. Endowments are key to a financially secure future for the Roman Catholic Church in Orange.

Methods of Giving

Charitable Remainder Trusts provide donors with substantial tax benefits. A charitable remainder is left for the Church.

Bequests may be made to the Foundation through wills. Provisions for gifts to the Foundation from an estate may be for a specified amount or percentage.

Life insurance gifts to the Foundation can be made by naming the Catholic Foundation as owner and beneficiary.

How to Establish a Fund with the Catholic Foundation

Parishes, individuals, families, schools or businesses can create an endowment fund. Funds are invested and generate an ongoing source of income for the Diocese and its designated programs. Donors may name the fund in memory or honor of their family, friend or loved one.

Discretionary or undesignated endowment funds enable the Bishop and the Foundation to respond to our Catholic community's changing needs.

Designated endowment funds support, in perpetuity, specific purposes.

Parish and school endowment funds are created to provide current and future financial resources for the general needs of parishes and Catholic schools of the Diocese.

Scholarship endowment funds help provide a continuous source of educational and financial assistance for the Diocese's Catholic school students, the leaders of tomorrow.

You are encouraged to consult an attorney, financial planner or other trusted professional advisor to help guide you with your charitable gift and estate planning decisions.

The Catholic Foundation welcomes your interest in making gifts of treasure in support of the local Church of Orange. We invite you to be a responsible steward of your God-given gifts so that the Gospel message may be shared with all those whom we serve in Orange County.
