A department of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange, the Catholic Deaf Community is dedicated to ministry with Deaf Catholics and their families. We are available to parishes, their ministers, catechists, educators and parishioners working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing members. We are happy to assist you with obtaining interpreters for your parish needs (weddings, baptisms, etc.). The cost of interpreters is between you and the interpreter who is hired by you.
Our office staff is fluent in ASL (American Sign Language) and sensitive to the unique needs and experiences of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Catholics. In addition, staff is fluent in Spanish.
Besides our numerous ministry services we offer assistance, resources and training for parish personnel working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing members. Our support services include community workshops, home and institutional visitations, individual and family support, referrals, advocacy and limited social services. We provide Limited assistance with Immigration issues and related paperwork and we make referrals to Catholic Charities of Orange County for in-depth assistance.
