   BECOMING CERTIFIED WITH RJ/DM

The Diocese has approved a Certification Program for volunteers to become certified in Restorative Justice/Detention Ministry!

Volunteers leading bible studies,  doing one-to-one pastoral visits, and sacramental prep in the jails and juvenile detention facilities are required to be certified in order to work in these areas of the ministry.

Receiving the Basic Lay Certification requires completing a total of 60 hours course work (This does not include additional on-site training and on-going updates). The IPM Basic Lay Certification course outline is as follows:

IPM Ministry Module R210A Spiritual Formation

IPM Ministry Module R210B Theological Formation

IPM Pastoral Module R210C Pastoral Formation

IPM Methodology (See equivalencies below)

IPM Methodology requirements can be satisfied by completing the following RJ/DM trainings as equivalencies  of your choice that total 15.0 hours or more course work.

RJ/DM Group Facilitation

RJ/DM One-to- One Pastoral Visitation

RJ/DM Communion Service Leader

RJ/DM Substance Abuse (Drug & Alcohol Addiction)

Some of you may have already completed a number of these courses and do not have much left to finish before receiving your  Certification. For more information regarding the Basic Lay Ministry Certification please contact the Diocesan Office of IPM (listed above) and our office for RJ/DM methodology equivilencies (all listed above).

Volunteers who are not required to complete the RJ/DM Certification are encouraged to do so anyway.  These courses will not only help you in your ministry but are personally enriching as well. Those we serve in our adult and juvenile facilities deserve only the best we have to offer them.

Volunteers: please be sure to notify us when you've completed any formal trainings, college degrees or certifications in religious formation so we can update our records.

Some courses are also available on-line in both English and Spanish through IPM in partnership with the University of Dayton.  For schedule and registration click here: University of Datyon Online Classes - 2011 Equivalencies    Or call IPM at 714-282-3073.
